Problem Description

Client forgot the console password .


Process Analysis

After the password recovery function is enabled: Start using the BootWare menu to Skip Current System Configuration  of the system, and then continue to use the device.

After the password recovery function is disabled: you can only Restore to Factory Default Configuration through the BootWare menu Only then can continue to operate, which can effectively prevent illegal users from obtaining the startup configuration file.

By default, the password recovery function of the device is enabled.


Solution

 

  1. Export the current configuration (it is recommended to back up the configuration file first)

1.1、Restart the device and press Ctrl+B to enter the BOOTROM menu.

 

Press Ctrl+B to enter Boot Menu...4

Please input BootRom password:

 

   BOOT MENU

1. Download application file to device

2. Select application file to boot

3. Display all files in device

4. Delete file from device

5. Modify BootRom password

0. Reboot

Enter your choice(0-5):

 

1.2、Export the configuration file to an external TFTP/FTP server

BOOT MENU

1. Download application file to device

2. Select application file to boot

3. Display all files in device

4. Delete file from device

5. Modify BootRom password

0. Reboot

 

Enter your choice(0-5):                   //Enter CTRL+Y,then press ENTER

 

Please select application file upload choices:

1. Upload file from Flash via TFTP protocol

2. Upload file from CF card via TFTP protocol

0. Return to boot menu

 

Enter your choice(0-2): 1         

 

Load File name           :sda startup.cfg

Switch IP address        :192.168.0.36 172.16.0.1

Server IP address        :192.168.0.30 172.16.0.2

 // Enter the configuration file name, device address, TFTP server address according to the actual situation

Are you sure to upload file to server? Yes or No (Y/N):Y             //Press Y

Load file from flash to sdram...done!

Uploading...done!

Under the BOOTROM menu, press CTRL+Y and then hit ENTER to set up the TFTP server and export the configuration.

 

1.3、Delete the current configuration file

Please select application file upload choices:

1. Upload file from Flash via TFTP protocol

2. Upload file from CF card via TFTP protocol

0. Return to boot menu

 

Enter your choice(0-2): 0                             //Select 0 to go back to the Bootrom menu

 

  1.  Skip Current System Configuration

If the password recovery function is enabled, you can restart the device and press Ctrl+B to enter the BootWare main menu and select <6> according to the system prompts, that is, start in the mode of Skip Current System Configuration. At this time, the device will not Delete the original configuration file.

 

Press Ctrl+B to enter extended boot menu...

BootWare password: Not required. Please press Enter to continue.

 

        Password recovery capability is enabled.  //If you see this prompt, it means the Password recovery capability is enabled.

 

Note: The current operating device is flash

Enter < Storage Device Operation > to select device.

When the BootWare main menu appears again, select <0> and the device will restart. After restarting the device, the device configuration is empty, you can configure rollback in the system view to restore the original configuration. The following configuration means that the current configuration is rolled back to the configuration state in the configuration file startup.cfg. If you do not want to restore the original configuration, please skip this step.

Set a new console port password in the system view. The following configuration means to set the console port authentication mode to password authentication, and set the console port password to 123456 in cipher text.

[H3C-ui-aux0]set authentication password simple 123456

  1. Restore to Factory Default Configuration 

If the password recovery function is disabled, when the user forgets the configured console port password, you can restart the device and enter the BootWare main menu and select <5> to Restore to Factory Default Configuration. At this time, the device will automatically delete the configuration file used at startup.

        Password recovery capability is disabled.   //If you see this prompt, it means the Password recovery capability is disabled.

cause the configuration files to be deleted, and the system will start up

When the BootWare main menu appears again, select <0> and the device will restart.

After restarting the device, the device restores its factory configuration.
