Network Topology

Multiple 5130S-HIs are interconnected with multiple terminals of different models through the distribution frame.

Problem Description

Some switch ports are up/down irregularly, affecting services. The faulty switch is not fixed, and the oscillating port on the faulty switch is not fixed. The faulty terminal is mainly the client"s office PC, and the oscillating time is irregular.

Process Analysis

1.      On the switch port 2/0/23 that the terminal is directly connected to, it is found that there are a large number of abnormal lldp packets starting at 15:05; the lldp neighbor packets are unidirectional packets (similar to UDP packets) and are sent by the terminal. After the device receives the message, it will establish the lldp neighbor relationship or delete the lldp neighbor relationship accordingly; under normal circumstances, the PC generally generates this kind of log when the network cable is plugged in or the computer is turned on and off.


2.      Checking the switch log, it is found that the flapping of the faulty port is simply the physical up/down of the network port first, and then the protocol up/down. The oscillation time is uncertain and the number of oscillations is not fixed.

Perform on-site replacement tests on switches, patch panels, and terminals. Connect the faulty switch and the non-faulty terminal across the patch frame/not across the patch panel, and the fault remains. Subsequent tests have found that the terminal network card hibernates from time to time, during which the switch port will up/down, and the number of oscillations is related to the network card model. The cause of the failure has been found.


Solution

Modify the terminal hibernation mode so that the terminal does not hibernate and failures do not recur.
