Problem Description

Since obstacles have strong attenuation on wireless signals, which greatly affects the design and deployment of network planning, during the site survey, special attention should be paid to and master the test methods for obstacle attenuation to obtain accurate attenuation data. The test method of obstacle attenuation is introduced as follows:

Solution

1. Select the obstacle to be tested. Usually, typical indoor obstacles, or obstacles with uncertain materials, such as ceilings and walls, are selected.

2. Power on the test FAT AP after placing it. The test AP placement requirements are as follows: – There is no obstruction between it and the obstacle to be tested. – The distance from the obstacle to be tested is 4m to 5m. Do not stick close to the obstacle to be tested, because the field strength near the signal source fluctuates greatly, which will affect the test accuracy.

3. Use a signal scanning tool (Cloudnet APP or other third-party APP installed on the mobile phone) to connect to the FAT AP wireless network, test the field strength of the signal on both sides of the obstacle, and subtract the two to obtain the obstacle attenuation. It is recommended to measure several sets of data to reduce errors. Note that the attenuation values of 2.4G and 5G are tested separately. For example, the 2.4G field strengths tested on both sides of the obstacle are -60dBm and -65dBm respectively, then the attenuation of the obstacle is 5dB.

4. Enter the obstacle attenuation obtained from the test into the network planning tool WSS. Log in to the cloudnet APP, and preset the new obstacle type in the WSS module to enter the obstacles to be tested.
