Problem Description

Due to known issues with Seagate Skybolt 512e mechanical hard drive firmware C004 and previous versions, an upgrade to version C0E4 is required.

Process Analysis

1.Single hard disk upgrade use different tools to upgrade according to the configured array card and hard disk mode.

2.Batch upgrade can use the official website customization repo.

Solution

Please be sure to back up important data before updating to avoid accidents, the firmware upgrade requires a restart of the server to take effect.

Single drive firmware upgrade method:

1. Seagate hard drives connected and used as passthrough disks via PMC/LSI array cards can be upgraded via the SeaChestLite tool provided by Seagate, involving the following array card models.

Ø  RAID-P430-M1

Ø  RAID-P430-M2

Ø  HBA-1000-M2-1

Ø  HBA-H460-M1

Ø  HBA-H460-B1

Ø  RAID-P460-M2

Ø  RAID-P460-B2

Ø  RAID-P460-M4

Ø  RAID-P460-B4

Ø  RAID-P2404-Mf-4i

Ø  RAID-P4408-Mf-8i

Ø  HBA-LSI-9300-8i

Ø  HBA-LSI-9311-8i

Ø  RAID-LSI-9361-8i(1G)-A1-X

Ø  RAID-LSI-9361-8i(2G)-1-X

Ø  HBA-LSI-9440-8i

Ø  RAID-LSI-9460-8i(2G)

Ø  RAID-LSI-9460-16i(4G)

Ø  RAID-L460-M4

Ø  HBA-H5408-Mf-8i

a) Copy the corresponding SeaChestLite tool (here is an example for Linux) to the system.

b) Run . / SeaChest_Lite -s to see the disk letter and firmware of the disk to be upgraded.

c) Run . /SeaChest_Lite -d /dev/sgx --downloadFW [fwfilename]

2. Seagate hard drives are connected and configured for array use via LSI array cards involving the following array card models.

Ø  RAID-LSI-9361-8i(1G)-A1-X

Ø  HBA-LSI-9440-8i

Ø  RAID-LSI-9460-8i(2G)

Ø  RAID-P5408-Mf-8i(4G)

Ø  RAID-LSI-9460-8i(4G)

Ø  RAID-LSI-9361-8i(2G)-1-X

Ø  RAID-LSI-9460-16i(4G)

Ø  RAID-L460-M4

Ø  HBA-LSI-9311-8i

Ø  HBA-H5408-Mf-8i

a) Install the storcli tool, refer to the appendix for installation commands.

b) Use storcli /c0 to view the disk connected to controller 0, record the EID, Slt

c) Execute the command to update the firmware storcli /c0 /e /s download src=

3. Seagate hard drives are connected and configured for array use via the following PMC array cards, involving array card models.

Ø  HBA-1000-M2-1

Ø  HBA-H460-M1

Ø  HBA-H460-B1

Ø  RAID-P460-M2

Ø  RAID-P460-B2

Ø  RAID-P460-M4

Ø  RAID-P460-B4

Ø  RAID-P2404-Mf-4i

Ø  RAID-P4408-Mf-8i

a) Install the arcconf tool, refer to the appendix for installation commands.

b) Execute arcconf list to view the controller IDs

c) Execute arcconf getconfig AL to view the basic information of the drive, record the Channel and Device ID of the drive

d) Execute arcconf imageupdate device ChunkSize# Filename> [Mode#] to execute the upgrade.

The Chunksize section can be queried by arcconf imageupdate help for the current Controller supported chunksize. example:
