Problem Description

An AP in a site repeatedly downloads the version and cannot go online stably

Process Analysis

First of all, let’s clarify the fault phenomenon. From the output information of the AP, we can see that the AP can download the version from the AC and start it normally, and can enter the command line, but it will download the version again after a few seconds.

In the AP command line, we can see that the version of the AP does not match the version of the AC. At the same time, in the debug wlan capwap information of the AC, there is the following print information:

*Jul 20 11:24:49:858 2020 vac CWS/7/FSM: Enter Image Download state.

*Jul 20 11:24:49:858 2020 vac CWS/7/ERROR: Failed to get image file 0.000000rom the ram path.

*Jul 20 11:24:49:858 2020 vac CWS/7/EVENT: Start get ap ipe offset in file /mnt/slot0#flash:/wa4300.ipe

*Jul 20 11:24:49:858 2020 vac CWS/7/EVENT: Get the ap ipe offset in file /mnt/slot0#flash:/wa4300.ipe, errCode=0x0 offset=0 ipeSize=0

The version of AP is downloaded from the flash of AC, not from apimge. In the list of matching FIT APs in the release manual, it is stated that the ipe file of this type of AP is not packaged in the AC, and the ipe file of the AP needs to be imported separately to the root directory of the AC.

Therefore, it is suspected that the upload of the AP version in the root directory of the AC is incorrect and inconsistent with the version number of the AC. After the AP downloads the version, and due to the version verification mechanism of the AC, the AC will compare the software version of the AP with the model of the AP saved on the AC. Compare the corresponding relationship between software and hardware versions. If the software versions are consistent, the CAPWAP tunnel is allowed to be established; if the software versions are inconsistent, the AP is notified of this situation. After the AP receives the message that the versions are inconsistent, it will request the version from the AC and upgrade the version, and then re-establish a CAPWAP tunnel connection with the AC.

Therefore, the AP will download the version repeatedly and cannot be online stably.

Solution

Re-upload the correct AP ipe file in the AC root directory, and the AP is stable and registered successfully.
