Network Topology

R4900 G5 + Board-loaded soft RAID

Windows Server 2022

Problem Description

During the installation of the operating system, the customer configured the board-loaded soft RAID according to the instructions, but the configured system disk could not be found during the installation process, and the installation could not be completed.

Process Analysis

Unable to recognize the soft RAID created by Board-Loaded, first suspect that the driver is correct.

The driver used in the field is the 8.0.0.4028 VROC driver for the R4900 G5 server and Windows Server 2022.

But it should be noted that there are two types of Soft RAID, and it is important to distinguish and choose the correct driver.

1. VROC software RAID, such as VROC for creating disk arrays with NVME.

2. Board-Loaded RAID on the motherboard, which is relatively simpler and also a software RAID.

The Board-loaded driver should be selected here, not the VROC driver.

Solution

After replacing the correct RSTe Dirver, the system disk is recognized properly. Successful installation of the operating system.
