Network Topology

AC (poe) ----------AP

Problem Description

Customer have 6 APs (WA6126) connected to the same AC. 5 of the APs are working normally. But 1 AP which is connected to AC at about 60 meters (next floor) cannot be powered on by POE.

The cable was tested by plugging into third Party switch and the AP powered on. Also, the same AP can be powered on by our AC at about 30 meters.

Process Analysis

1.       First, use display poe interface to check the power supply status of the AC. In the following figure, the 1/0/14 interface is connected to an AP 60m away:

The picture shows that the interface is not supplying power to the AP.

2.       Next, use a 1m long cable to connect to the same AP, and verify that it can be powered normally.

3.       R&D laboratory test, the versions are consistent, AC can use 100m network cable to power AP, as shown in the following figure, 14 ports of 6126 connected by 100m network cable:

4.       The customer made a new network cable about 60 meters long, which can be used normally on third party switches and H3C AC. However, because the customer wanted to use the old cable (which had been installed in the wall), they finally agreed to use a POE switch for power supply.

Solution

Laboratory tests show that both 50m and 100m network cables can power the AP. So if this type of problem occurs, first check whether the network cable quality meets the standards. If not, replace it with a network cable that meets the standards to power the AP.
