Problem Description

A site reported feedback that a small number of terminal access devices do not display IP addresses, occurring randomly among users, and the cause needs to be identified.

Process Analysis

1. The online user IP address is carried in the charging update message. For such issues, check the corresponding message content in the UAM logs:

It was found that the same terminal irregularly sends charging messages, some with IP addresses and some without:

Carrying an IPv4 address:

After half a minute, the charging message no longer carries it:

2. Capture packets to acknowledge the reason for not carrying the address. It was found that the carried address is IPv6, and EIA has not enabled the IPv6 function:

3. Attempt to enable the IPv6 function of EIA for re-testing by referring to the case: https://zhiliao.h3c.com/Theme/details/150113
The issue will still persist

4. Acknowledge that the access device manufacturer model is Aruba, carrying the IPv6 parameter as Framed-IPv6-Address. This parameter is not processed by EIA, hence identification is impossible.

The parameters recognizable by EIA are framed-interface-id and framed-ipv6-prefix, which together form the IPv6 address.

Example:

Frmed-Interface-Id(96)
=447d0121f5bxxxxx
Framed IPv6-Frefix(97)
=00402405094007xxxxx

Solution

1. Enable EIA IPV6 function

2. Use charging message to carry IPV6 address for access device with adapted format
