When the number of network connections in an internal network (intranet) far exceeds the bandwidth capacity, it may lead to a series of performance issues and anomalies, such as increased packet loss in wired networks, higher network latency, and inconsistent speed test resultsSpeed test often shows 0。
In addition to affecting wired networks, it also significantly impacts the performance of radio equipment such as APs. This may cause radio equipment to fail to connect to Wi-Fi or experience slow wireless speed tests. Devices connected wirelessly may encounter lag when receiving messages on WeChat or experience intermittent smoothness and lag during meetings on WeCom.
Home broadband typically has fewer connections. Depending on the carrier's region, the maximum number of connections (total TCP + UDP) is around 2000-4000. When there are many devices, the router can easily exceed this limit if no restrictions are applied.
Enterprise private line broadband usually supports more connections. However, if issues described occur during use, it is recommended to contact the carrier to acknowledge the specific connection count.
Note: Since UDP is a stateless protocol, it does not have explicit disconnection messages. Different devices may use different methods to determine whether a UDP connection has been disrupted. For example, some devices may rely on timeout mechanisms to decide if a UDP connection remains active, while others may use heartbeat or other mechanisms. This discrepancy may lead to inconsistencies between UR routers and carriers when calculating the number of currently active connections, as they might adopt different standards and algorithms.
1. The UR router supports viewing terminal connection counts to acknowledge which device has more connections. You can clickSystem Monitoring → Traffic Rankingand enable the traffic ranking function
Note: This function consumes router performance. Remember to disable traffic ranking after observation.
2. Based on traffic ranking, you can restrict devices with excessive connections underNetwork Security → Connection Limit → Connection Count Limit3. Click
