A customer site using R4900 G6 with an LSI-9560-8i RAID controller and an 8LFF front backplane encountered an issue after replacing the backplane with a 12LFF front backplane (4 SAS/SATA + 8 UniBay). The server experienced RAID controller identification failure in BIOS during hot restart, though HDM could still identify it. The issue was resolved by cold restart but reappeared during hot restart.
1. Confirm that the SAS/SATA cable is coded as 0404A1QM
2. On-site inspection shows the SAS/SATA cable is connected to the SAS EXP2 port on the backplane
3. Refer to the backplane interface description in the user guide. The No. 6 SAS EXP2 port is for connecting downstream drive backplanes, while the SAS/SATA cable of this RAID controller should use the No. 1 SAS PORT port
4. Check the backplane wiring method in the user guide. The description states that the backplane interface uses SAS PORT, but the wiring diagram shows a connection to the SAS EXP2 port. The diagram is incorrect, leading to wiring confusion.
After changing the backplane interface of this SAS/SATA data cable from SAS EXP2 to SAS PORT, recovery was achieved.
