Impact of WX5860X fan absence on device operation and startup (test unit version R5475)
1. Check fan status and fan information when the device is running normally
[WX5860X-2]display fan
Slot 1 :
Fan 1 State: Normal
Fan 2 State: Normal
[WX5540X-2]display device manuinfo
Fan 1:
DEVICE_NAME :LSWM1BFANSCB
DEVICE_SERIAL_NUMBER :xxx
MANUFACTURING_DATE :2019-11-19
VENDOR_NAME :H3C
Fan 2:
DEVICE_NAME :LSWM1BFANSCB
DEVICE_SERIAL_NUMBER :xxx
MANUFACTURING_DATE :2019-11-19
VENDOR_NAME :H3C
2. Unplug Fan 1 and observe device operation status logs alarms and temperature changes
Logs | Every 80s report [ WX5860X -2]%Jun 11 16:03:05:711 2025 WX5860X -2 DEV/3/FAN_ABSENT: Fan 1 is absent. |
Temperature changes and alarms |
Temperature rises rapidly and triggers corresponding upper limit alarms successively The default upper limit alarm values for temperature are as follows: Alarm example: %Jun 11 16:08:58:111 2025 WX5860X -2 DEV/4/TEMPERATURE_ALARM: Temperature is greater than the high-temperature alarming threshold on slot 1 sensor hotspot 2. Current temperature is 120 degrees centigrade. %Jun 11 16:08:58:111 2025 WX5860X -2 DEV/4/TEMPERATURE_WARNING: Temperature is greater than the high-temperature warning threshold on slot 1 sensor hotspot 3. Current temperature is 98 degrees centigrade. |

System light turns red |
3. New logs and alarms after unplugging Fan 2
Logs | Every 80s report [ WX5860X -2]%Jun 11 16:08:12:111 2025 WX5860X -2 DEV/3/FAN_ABSENT: Fan 2 is absent |
Temperature change and alarm | Temperature rises rapidly and exceeds alarmlilmit (CPU may restart anytime after exceeding alarmlilmit) |
Device operation status |
When hotspot 2 exceeds 112, the temperature surpasses alarmlilmit and soon triggers an automatic device restart. [WX WX5860X -2]%Jun 11 16:09:18:111 2025 WX5860X -2 DEV/2/TEMPERATURE_SHUTDOWN: Temperature is greater than the high-temperature shutdown threshold on slot 1 sensor hotspot 2. The slot will be powered off automatically. Current temperature is 128 degrees centigrade. %Jun 11 16:09:19:257 2025 WX5860X -2 IFNET/3/PHY_UPDOWN: Physical state on the interface GigabitEthernet1/1/1 changed to down. %Jun 11 16:09:19:258 2025 WX5860X -2 IFNET/5/LINK_UPDOWN: Line protocol state on the interface GigabitEthernet1/1/1 changed to down. %Jun 11 16:09:19:258 2025 WX5860X -2 IFNET/3/PHY_UPDOWN: Physical state on the interface Vlan-interface1 changed to down. 4. Without inserting a fan or only inserting one fan, the device will fail to start and restart after reporting ErrCode: 0x7c
(!!Note: This logic differs between versions R5473 and earlier and R5479 and later, where the device will gradually heat up after startup andwhen the temperature of a sensor exceeds the alarm limitautomatically trigger a high-temperature restart!!)
ErrCode: 0x7c
(The following error repeats 5 times)
*******************************************************************
**** ERROR: Please check if both fans are properly installed! ****
*******************************************************************
5. Insert two fans and ensure they function properly for successful device startup.
The WX5800X series wireless controller must ensure both fans are functioning properly. Operating with a single fan or fanless will cause the device temperature to gradually rise. Once any sensor's temperature exceeds the alarm limit, the device will automatically restart at any time.
Phenomenon when starting the device with missing or abnormal fan operation:
Version | Phenomenon |
Versions R5473 and earlier, and R5479 and later | The device temperature will gradually rise after startup and trigger a high-temperature restart on its own once any sensor's temperature exceeds the alarm limit. |
Versions R5474-R5478 | The device failed to start and restarted after reporting ErrCode: 0x7c five times. |
