Involved Version

G5 R4300/R4700/R4900/X10000/R5300/R5500/R5700 series BIOS versions 5.79 to 5.80

G6 R4300/R4700/R4900/R6700/R6900/R5300/R5500/B5700 series BIOS versions 6.10.47 to 6.10.56

Problem Description

If the server frequently encounters memory error correction (CE) errors (correctable memory errors) during operation, it may cause a decline in operating system performance, resulting in system lag and other abnormal phenomena. The system log alert is shown in the following figure:

Cause Analysis

The BIOS versions mentioned above adopt a relatively aggressive strategy for handling memory CE errors. When the host system encounters extreme conditions such as memory CE error flooding or a high volume of frequent CE errors, the error handling process consumes substantial system resources, which ultimately degrades system performance.

Workaround/Solutions

1.      Workaround

1)      Reboot the server and enter the BIOS. Change the Memory Correctable Error Flood Policy to Once.

Parameter path: Advanced -> Memory RAS Configuration -> Ctrl+Shift+F8 to open hidden options -> Memory Correctable Error Flood Policy

2)      If you need to modify multiple servers, you can export the BIOS configuration file from the HDM interface's remote maintenance -> configuration management, change the Memory Correctable Error Flood Policy to Once, import it to the target server, and reboot.

2.      Solution

For this issue, you can retain the configuration and upgrade to the following BIOS versions:

G5 Series Servers: BIOS version 5.81 and above

G6 Series Servers: BIOS version 6.10.58 and above
